Wrestling Season Recap
Wrestling qualifies four for nationals and another four are honored for Academic All Region.
PARAMUS, NJ-Wrestling had a strong season, backed by a talented and determined roster. The first accomplishment they did this year was qualifying for the GSAC Tournament, where they placed 3rd overall. While the result wasn't what they had hoped for, it was a testament to their depth and hard work. They then moved on to the Regionals/District Championship, where four student-athletes qualified for the NJCAA National Championship:
-
Dan Vela – 125 lbs
-
Brian Vargas – 141 lbs
-
Ty Pfeufer – 174 lbs
-
Diego Camargo – 285 lbs
Although all four fell short of placing at nationals, the experience was invaluable and will serve as a foundation for future growth as athletes.
Off the mat, we are proud to recognize several of our wrestlers for their academic excellence:
Academic All-Region XIX Honors (Student-athletes who completed at least 12 credits with a GPA of 3.25 or higher during their semester of athletic participation):

NJCAA All-Academic Third Team (minimum 24 credits - 3.60 to 3.79 GPA on a 4.00 scale):
Joshua Alvarez - 30 cr., 3.62 GPA
This season also marked the end of an era, as Head Coach Chris DiSanto completed his final year with the Bergen Bulldogs. Over 10 seasons, Coach DiSanto led the program with passion and dedication, helping more than 30 student-athletes qualify for nationals and coaching one NJCAA All-American. He will be moving on to Kean University, where he will serve as the Head Coach for both the men's and women's wrestling teams. He will truly be missed by the entire Bergen community.
Finally, we are excited to welcome Rey Miller as the new Head Coach for the 2025–2026 season. We look forward to the next chapter of Bergen Wrestling under his leadership.
