Women’s Wrestler Kelly Marquez Earns Third-Place Finish at Utica Wrestling Tournament
UTICA, NY-Bergen Community College women's wrestler Kelly Marquez turned in an impressive performance at the Utica University Round Robin Wrestling Tournament, securing a third-place finish in the 131-pound weight class after a series of hard-fought matches against strong regional competition.
Marquez opened the tournament with a decisive technical fall victory (10–0, 0:49) over Dakota House (Utica), immediately setting the tone with aggressive offense and mat control. She followed that performance with a key consolation-round win, defeating Sophia Torian (Ithaca College) by fall at 2:06, showcasing both composure and finishing ability.
In her losses, Marquez battled through tough matchups, falling by decision (6–3) to Arianna Leo (Ithaca College) and by fall to Deanna Williamson (Ocean County College). Despite the setbacks, Marquez rebounded strongly to earn her place on the podium and finish third overall, collecting four team points for Bergen.
"Kelly showed tremendous resilience and competitiveness throughout the tournament," said the Rey Miller (Bergen women's wrestling coach). "She responded exactly how you want an athlete to respond, learning from each match, staying aggressive, and finishing strong. A third-place finish in a deep field is a great accomplishment."
