Bergen earns 10th place at NJCAA National Tournament
Bergen earns 10th place at NJCAA National Tournament after winning the Region XIX Tournament for the first time since 1981.
Paramus, NJ - Bergen Community College's Men's Cross Country team ends their memorable 2015 season earning 10th place at the NJCAA National Tournament. The Cross Country NJCAA National Tournament was hosted by Holyoke Community College. The event was located at Stanley Park in Westfield, MA this past Saturday, November 7th.
The Bulldogs had tough competition and were hoping to repeat what they did at the Region XIX Tournament where the team won their first region title since 1981. The team competed against 20 other junior colleges around the nation. The team finished in 10th place which is the highest finish at nationals since 2013 when the team finished in 8th place. The only difference is that this team did it with seven freshmen, which will be a positive for next season.
The teams leading runner, Aneudy Nunez (Hackensack, NJ), finished individually in 27th place out of 153 runners and with a time of 29:25.4. Freshman, Porfirio Olivas (Garfield, NJ), finished in 61st place with a time of 30:51.4. Nunez and Olivas were followed by Daniel Silver (Fair Lawn, NJ) 70th place, Thomas Concannon (Rutherford, NJ) 103rd place, Connor McGillick (Saddle Brook,NJ) 109th place, Isaiah Peller (Englewood, NJ) 115th place, Ryan Reyes (Bergenfield, NJ) 122nd place.
Bergen had a great season bring home many trophies throughout the season. On September 12th, the team finished in second place at the Dukes XC Invitational. On September 20th, the team finished in second place at the Queensborough CC Invitational. On Saturday October 3rdth, the team finished in first place at the Luzerne County Invitational. On Sunday, October 11th, the team finished in second place at the CCNY Collegiate Classic.
Bergen looks to comeback stronger next year. The Bergen Bulldogs also send a big thank you to sophomores Thomas Concannon and Ryan Reyes, who were a huge part of the region runners-up in 2014 and region championship in 2015. Go Bulldogs!
