Bulldogs Rally Past Raritan Valley for First Win of the Season
PARAMUS, N.J. — The Bergen Community College softball team captured its first victory of the 2025 season in dramatic fashion on Saturday, rallying with a five-run sixth inning to defeat Raritan Valley Community College, 9-8, at home in Paramus.
Down 6-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Bulldogs erupted for five runs to seize control of the game, powered by a balanced offensive attack that saw seven different players collect hits. Freshman Mallory Mummert led the charge, going 2-for-3 with a home run, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Sophomore catcher Isabella Lopez added 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while Jilynn Rivera chipped in with 2 RBI on 2 hits of her own.
Pitcher Rhianna Hernandez earned the win in the circle, going the distance with 7.0 innings pitched, allowing 8 runs (6 earned) on 8 hits and striking out four. She battled through early trouble and held Raritan Valley scoreless in the seventh to preserve the win.
Also contributing to Bergen's offensive surge were Elizabeth Vanderbeek, Abriana Rios, Mary Palazzo, and Jackie Caraballo, each recording key RBI hits. The Bulldogs also showcased aggression on the base paths, swiping seven bases in total.
The Bulldogs will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as they continue Region 19 play.
