Softball Sweeps Ocean County in Dominant Region 19 Doubleheader
PARAMUS, N.J. — The Bergen Community College softball team delivered a statement in Region 19 play on Sunday afternoon, sweeping Ocean County College in a home doubleheader by scores of 9-1 and 13-5. The Bulldogs combined for 22 runs, 16 hits, and 12 stolen bases across the two games to secure the impressive sweep.
Game One: Bergen 9, Ocean 1 (5 Innings)
Pitcher Rhianna Hernandez was in control from the start, tossing a complete game and allowing just three hits and one earned run over five innings while also striking out one. Offensively, Bergen struck early and often, scoring in every inning but the second.
Jackie Caraballo drove in 2 runs and scored twice, while Mallory Mummert tripled and had an RBI among her 2 hits. Isabella Lopez added 2 hits and 2 RBI, and Mary Palazzo knocked in another 2 runs with a pair of hits of her own. Jilynn Rivera and Paulina Soto each recorded RBI hits as Bergen capitalized on five Ocean County errors to put the game out of reach.
Game Two: Bergen 13, Ocean 5 (5 Innings)
The Bulldogs stayed hot in Game Two, putting up five runs in the bottom of the fifth to cap off a run-rule win. Jackie Caraballo once again led the way with 3 RBI, including a 2-run double. Abriana Rios added a pair of RBI and stole a base, while Paulina Soto, Jilynn Rivera, Jasmin Ramos, and Mary Palazzo all drove in runs in the balanced attack.
Freshman Jadyn Isikliyol earned the win in the circle, going the distance while allowing just three hits and four earned runs, despite battling through six walks. She struck out two and worked out of multiple jams to keep Bergen comfortably ahead.
Bergen also turned up the pressure on the base paths, recording eight stolen bases in Game Two alone, led by Mallory Mummert, Jilynn Rivera, and Elizabeth Vanderbeek.
