Bergen Women’s Basketball Pulls Away for 74–52 Home Win Over Ocean County College
Paramus, N.J. – The Bergen Community College women's basketball team delivered a strong all-around performance Tuesday evening, defeating Ocean County College 74–52 at home on February 3.
After a tight opening quarter, Bergen took control of the game in the second period and never looked back. The Bulldogs outscored Ocean County 17–7 in the second quarter to take a halftime lead, then continued to build separation with dominant third and fourth quarters, posting 21 points in each frame.
Fonquasia Slade led all scorers with a game-high 33 points while adding 15 rebounds to record a double-double. Slade was efficient from the floor, finishing 15-of-30 shooting, and anchored Bergen's presence in the paint.
Ariana Garo followed with a strong all-around effort, scoring 20 points while dishing out seven assists and collecting nine rebounds. Bergen's offense was fueled by its activity inside, outscoring Ocean County 44–20 in points in the paint and holding a 57–42 advantage on the glass.
Maha Kalonji contributed 10 rebounds, while Tiara Duran and Sonja Syla provided additional support on both ends of the floor as Bergen forced 13 turnovers and converted them into 11 points.
Ocean County was led by Brooke Schmidt, who finished with 22 points, but Bergen's defensive pressure and rebounding depth proved decisive as the Bulldogs pulled away late.
