Bergen earns 13th place at NJCAA National Tournament
Bergen earns 13th place at NJCAA National Tournament after finish in in fourth place at Region XIX Tournament.
Paramus, NJ - Bergen Community College's Women's Cross Country team ends their memorable 2015 season earning 13th place at the NJCAA National Tournament. The Women's Cross Country NJCAA National Tournament was hosted by Holyoke Community College. The event was located at Stanley Park in Westfield, MA this past Saturday, November 7th.
The Bulldogs had tough competition and were hoping to repeat what they did at the Region XIX Tournament where the team finished in fourth place. The team competed against 18 other junior colleges around the nation. The team finished in 13th place which is the highest finish at nationals since 2002 when the team finished in 6th place. The only difference is that this team did it with six freshmen, which will bring a positive experience for next season.
The teams leading runner, Yanibel Pena (Hackensack, NJ), finished individually in 21st place out of 130 runners and with a time of 20:37.0. Freshman, Amanda Duran (Hackensack, NJ), finished in 88th place with a time of 23:41.1. Pena and A. Duran were followed by Melissa Duran (Hackensack, NJ) 92th place, Katiana Mendoza (Hackensack, NJ) 100th place, Kelli Galati (Rutherford, NJ) 106th place, & Diana Herandez (Hackensack, NJ) 123rd place.
Bergen had a great season and bringing home many trophies throughout the season. On September 12th, the team finished in second place at the Dukes XC Invitational. On September 20th, the team finished in third place at the Queensborough CC Invitational. On Saturday October 3rdth, the team finished in first place at the Luzerne County Invitational. On Sunday, October 11th, the team finished in second place at the CCNY Collegiate Classic.
Bergen looks to comeback stronger next year and improve on their successful 2015 season. Go Bulldogs!
