Bergen Men’s Basketball Cruises to 95–74 Home Victory Over Passaic County
Paramus, N.J. (Jan. 15, 2026) – The Bergen Community College men's basketball team delivered a strong all-around performance Thursday night, defeating Passaic County Community College, 95–74, at home to improve to 10–10 overall and 10–7 in conference play.
Bergen set the tone early, building a 46–29 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and relentless work on the glass. The Bulldogs maintained control throughout the second half, outscoring Passaic 49–45 to secure the convincing win.
Sophomore Jakai Irby led all scorers with a game-high 27 points, shooting 11-of-20 from the field while adding eight rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. Evan Meberg provided a spark from the perimeter, finishing with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 3-for-4 from three-point range, along with eight rebounds.
Jarris Bertram chipped in 12 points, while Jayden Rivera added nine points and Jaheim Best contributed four assists to help facilitate Bergen's balanced offensive attack. The Bulldogs finished the night shooting 43.0 percent from the field and recorded 14 assists on 37 made baskets.
Bergen's depth proved to be a key factor, as the bench accounted for 28 points, and the Bulldogs dominated the interior with a 42–32 advantage in points in the paint. Bergen also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 29 points off Passaic miscues, and held a 29–11 edge in second-chance points.
Defensively, Bergen limited Passaic to 36.6 percent shooting while forcing 21 turnovers, keeping the visitors from mounting any sustained comeback.
The Bulldogs will look to carry this momentum forward as they continue conference play in the coming weeks.
